Smith Rock route plans share the canyon with nesting raptors
The park offers far more than one famous view, and some climbing areas close seasonally for nesting birds.
The place detail is stable. Check the linked place page for current access, hours, or conditions. Last reviewed against the listed sources July 18, 2026.
Smith Rock is a deep river canyon with several thousand climbs and miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails. That variety is why a plan should name the actual route, not just the park.
Some climbing areas close or limit access seasonally to protect nesting golden eagles and falcons. Read the current park notice and the signs at the route before committing to the day’s climb.
