Portland is one city in three counties
Portland reaches into Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties, so an address check can change the records office or local jurisdiction a resident needs.

Portland does not stop at one county line. The Oregon Blue Book lists the city in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties. That small fact explains why the city name alone may not identify the right local office.
The three-county footprint makes a Portland address a geographic question, not just a city label. A Portland mailing address is not proof that the property sits inside Portland city limits. When the county is unknown, the City points to Portland Maps’ Jurisdiction field for the city-and-county check.
That boundary becomes concrete in ordinary property records. Deeds, mortgages, easements, and sales records go to the recording or property-records division of the property’s county. Property-tax records go to that county’s assessor. One city name can therefore lead to any of three county office systems.
